dictionary definition

(pronounced "freed")

I was on track to becoming a lawyer: I liked the idea of climbing that corporate ladder and working for a law firm in a big city. I moved out when I was 18 years old and money was tight though, so I hustled hard at coffee shops and catering gigs while I was in college until I could get my foot into the door of a law firm. After I graduated, I worked as a Law Clerk for years, saving up to go to law school. I was proud to be working in my dream field... but I was craving a sense of creative fulfillment and more freedom. Something needed to change.

I helped a friend with her wedding in 2011 and I was hooked on wedding design after that. I ended up starting a blog that featured weddings and vendors in my city, and within two years it became a top Canadian wedding blog.

Little did I know that just a few years later, I'd be running a huge team, travelling the world, see my name on a beautiful boutique, and have the most incredible clients and creative projects I could ever ask for. Not to mention I live and work with the love of my life, Lee Large <3

These days, we spend the summer season at home with our team, and the off-season working remotely from Bali.

How it all started

  • Ran my first wedding season: 12 weddings (insane!)
  • Hired my first assistants.
  • Broke into Martha Stewart's party in NYC...
  • Launched Satin & Snowflakes, a wedding blog with a terrible name, from the closet of my guest bedroom.
  • Started my first business: Brittany Frid Weddings & Design, while still working at the law firm.
  • Started offering in-house rentals and stationery.
  • Cut our events in half but earned more than ever before.
  • Toured the East coast of the USA with my lead florist.
  • Moved to Bali in the winter for 6 months.
  • Started florals in my apartment (and outgrew it).
  • Rocked 35 weddings.
  • Moved into a home-studio.
  • Spent 3 weeks in Cuba.
  • Rebranded to "Satin & Snow".
  • Hired my first team.
  • Finally left the law firm.
  • Had my first tv appearance.
  • 3 week vacation to California

...and my bedroom

crafting at a baseball game

  • Opened a shop called "Satin & Snow Wedding Boutique."
  • Adopted Lady Gray.
  • Slayed 45 weddings.
  • Outgrew the boutique in less than a year (whoops).
  • Spent 2 weeks in Nicaragua with my girls.
  • Rebranded to "Frid Events"
  • Opened a huge warehouse.
  • Crushed 56 weddings.
  • Spent 2 months travelling around South East Asia.
  • Lost my studio to Covid.
  • Postponed 65 events.
  • Dyed my hair (didn't we all?)
